Richard C. Aiken, MD, PhD

Aiken earned his MS and PhD at Princeton University, working with Leon Lapidus on numerical methods for stiff differential equations. Their early AIChE Journal papers developed the connection between stiff and singularly perturbed systems.
His later academic work included ETH Zürich, KTH Stockholm, and a tenured associate professorship in chemical engineering at the University of Utah. He edited Stiff Computation for Oxford University Press.
