The operating problem
Gas–liquid flow is not a single correction to a single-phase meter. Liquid accumulation, intermittent transport, elevation changes, pressure transients, and changing composition can alter both the physical state of the line and the meaning of an instrument signal.
A useful model must therefore connect conservation laws, phase behavior, terrain, instrument response, and the operating history. It must also identify when the assumptions behind its estimate are no longer defensible.
Field heritage
From 1983 to 1993, Digitron, Inc. designed and operated gamma-transmission systems for gas-condensate pipelines. Field work included the Rickman–Painter hilly-terrain system and the Matagorda offshore pipeline system, with research reported through the American Gas Association. That experience informs present work at the measurement-model interface.
